The Changing Landscape of Your Mobile Security System

If you have taken a look at our blog before, it is likely, well almost certain, that you have seen a reference or two to DMP’s Virtual Keypad application. In fact, we have even compared the app to Apple’s take on automation with their Homekit system. Both applications are excellent representations of the world in which we live. A world where technology is constantly evolving in order to put users in control of every aspect of their lives.

It is easy to recognize the exact changes after they have already taken place, but the real question that fascinates and intrigues most users is where the technology will go from here. With regards to home automation, we already have the answer. Thanks to SDM Magazine and their detailed report on this topic, they identified five important trends with regards to home automation and the mobile apps that accompany it. The list, detailed in their article, 5 Key Trends in Interactive Services follows below with some important things to keep in mind.

1. CURATED Z-WAVE DEVICES
As we had mentioned in our article on Apple’s Homekit, the idea of the application is to be able to control your entire home from one platform. We went on to recognize that DMP’s application already does this for your home or office building. This is most true, however, if the individual is using compatible devices. As a result, this first trend noted seeks to center automation apps around Z-Wave compatible devices in order to allow you to effectively use the same application for controlling all wireless appliances and aspects of your home.

2. E-COMMERCE CAPABILITY
New applications are being designed with the opportunity for users to purchase compatible devices directly from the application. This means that if you are using the app and realize that you would like to control a certain appliance or part within your home or business, you can order a compatible device directly from the app and know that it will work before it gets to your door.

3. DIRECT SMARTPHONE CONTROL
Apps are also being designed with the ability for your phone to connect to your system via Bluetooth when you are in close vicinity to your system. This not only saves you money by reducing the costs associated with connecting to the cloud, but it will also allow your phone to act like a virtual key fob, similar to the ways that remote car keys automatically unlock your vehicle when you are near it.

4. APPLE TV AND AMAZON ECHO/ALEXA INTEGRATION
SDM’s article also notes that a few developers are looking to integrate Apple TV and Amazon Echo/Alexa into the app, opening doors for numerous offerings produced by the integration of just these two products.

5. A TECHNICIAN TOOL
Apps developed by companies and security alliances themselves are also being used to guide technicians. As SDM reports, some applications will allow tech’s to view cameras they might be adjusting, write proposals, and allow customers to check a service call’s status.

The offerings of the home automation industry are heading in an exhilarating new direction and we are excited to see how these changes will be implemented.
