Should alarm dealers worry about Verizon’s decision to sunset 3G service?
Last month Gigaom reported that Verizon has begun the process of phasing out its 3G network in order to free up more space for 4G-LTE service. Verizon is still in the early stages of this transition however, and plans on keeping its 3G Network running for a few more years. Ultimately this shouldn’t affect the alarm industry in any substantial way, because Verizon uses their 2G, 3G, and 4G-LTE networks differently than AT&T; meaning they cannot sunset them in the same way that AT&T is doing right now. The 2G network that Verizon uses for all of their voice communication should be sticking around for a while. The country is already experiencing miniature 2G sunsets in areas, the need to upgrade is becoming more urgent than ever. Please check with your alarm company to see if this affects your alarm system.
