Washington Alarm Company History
1943
In 1943, a man named Jack Woodman started his own business: Washington Equipment Company, a fire extinguisher business committed to giving local residents the tools they needed to stay safe. Jack worked diligently to grow his business for more than a decade until the late 1950s, when he saw the vast potential in the alarm industry. Our team installed its first rudimentary system in 1960 and soon forayed into fire alarm installation as well.
1965
In 1965, Jack’s son, John Woodman, joined the family business and helped to drive it to new heights of ability. Another pivotal moment arrived in 1974 with the establishment of our UL-listed central station, marking a major leap forward in our monitoring capabilities and offering clients a reliable security hub. Highline School District became our first major account and still remains a customer today — a testament to the community’s growing trust in Washington Alarm.
1982
When Jack finally retired in 1982, John was proud to take over the company in full. Today, though Jack and John are no longer with us, the Woodman family legacy remains strong as we continue to grow under the leadership of Shannon Woodman, our founder’s granddaughter.
