New Season-New Safety Considerations

Published by on August 30, 2016

It seems to be that each season presents its own threats while eliminating or reducing old ones. In a previous article, titled Summer Safety: It’s More than Just Wearing Sunscreen, we mentioned the unique safety concerns that summer time brings with it and how to mitigate these concerns. Unfortunately, the coming of the school year and the fall season associated with it introduce even more threats that you must be aware of. The most important thing about these risks, though, is that they can all be addressed with a monitored alarm system!

As the cold whether approaches, accidentally leaving doors and windows unlocked no longer presents itself as a potential concern for homeowners. With that said, our abnormally late summer, coupled with the start of the school year does bring with it some potential security threats. As kids and teenagers are away from the home once college and school start back up again in late August and September, many homes will return back to being uninhabited from 9-5 once again.

If this describes your situation, it may be difficult for you to get back into your normal schedule, and as a result, you may forget to set your alarm before you head out to work. Additionally, given the fact that the cold weather seems to be taking a while to appear, you may also still forget to close some windows, especially if you have become accustomed to someone being at home all summer. In order to address these concerns, setting a recurring reminder on your phone is an easy way to quickly get back into the habit of setting your alarm system. Furthermore, placing window sensors on all large windows (even upstairs) is a great way to make sure all of your windows are closed as your alarm system will not arm if they are not. This also makes your home safer, as well, by creating more alarm-tripping entry points. So as the school year and fall season roll around remember to close and lock doors/windows and set your alarm!
