Pick-Resistant Locks-Not a Solution to Break-Ins
As of recently, we have encountered multiple pieces of writing on how easy it is to pick locks and the subsequent concern that might come to many individuals. Fortunately, it should provide you with no anxiety whatsoever if you own a monitored alarm system. As summarized by a recent article on Lifehacker, thieves can bypass locks in a number of ways including the use of bump keys, lock picking sets, and in some cases the cliché credit card. The author cites the FBI in saying that 60.5% of burglaries are a result of forcible entry that excludes picking locks. This means that thieves often break into homes by completely bypassing attempts to open any door locks.
These modes of entry can include literally breaking through windows and doors or even walking and climbing through them if unlocked. This might seem rather unnerving as a thief would then be able to take and do whatever they please once they are inside your home. Fortunately, a monitored intrusion detection system is the ultimate protection against this situation. Even if a thief doesn’t trip the window or door sensor, which they most likely will, they will still alert your alarm system by tripping the motion detector or glass-break sensor, if applicable. The system will then of course produce local alarms and alert our central station, allowing us to then contact the local law enforcement. So even though it might be relatively easy to pick locks and even enter a home forcibly, this should be of little to no concern for people with monitored alarm systems.
